DeVaughn Myles’ life has been a true testimony to taking the high road and succeeding in the face of adversity. In fact, his very birth was fought with high anxiety as he was delivered in his grandmother’s kitchen, far from the safety and security of a modern hospital’s technology.

This was followed by growing up as the product of a single-parent household without a father figure in the toughest inner-city neighborhood of New York City – Crown Heights, Brooklyn – which was known throughout the 1980's and 90's as a war zone besieged by rampant crime, inter-ethnic bias, gang violence and on the firing line of drive-by stray gunshots and interpersonal rage. Despite being locked in by environmental oppression, DeVaughn was able to rise above the fray due to the life-affirming embrace of a loving family and an enduring faith. Both of these helped him avoid falling victim to the damaging outside hazards. He was able to stay on a straight course and avoid distractions to set and achieve personal goals.

DeVaughn grew up to be the proud descendant and heir of a strong great-grandmother who set the bar high for her children and their generations to follow. She paved the way for her family to hold true to high ideals, persevering under the most exigent circumstances to seek and acquire a better life. She survived a harrowing ocean voyage in the hold of a freight ship in 1913 to emigrate from Barbados in the West Indies to America. Landing on Ellis Island in New York City with no great means but an abundance of hope, purpose and ambition, she fought for every opportunity to succeed in life. She passed those ideals along to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who lived to become the products of her efforts and strong family value foundation she built brick by brick.

One of the challenges that DeVaughn overcame was struggling through life and school for 21 years with an undiagnosed learning disability. Despite having dyslexia he managed to maintain a C-average and graduate from high school on time. It wasn’t until he was enrolled in college that his condition was given a name and a course of correction. Over the years despite having dyslexia, DeVaughn became a master communicator. Though there was a slight handicap, he had the tenacity to become an excellent public speaker. He began to thrive in college as an undergraduate and after obtaining his Associate’s degree he went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree. Throughout his college journey he was able to pursue a meaningful career in business. Over the years because of his perseverance, DeVaughn achieved Series 7, 63 and 65 licenses and life and health insurance licenses, working his way up as a financial professional from junior broker to branch president to a valuable compliance officer as well as the sales manager for one of the world’s leading hotel chains.

DeVaughn is proud that he has been able to achieve a tremendous amount of success and attain lofty goals, but he readily acknowledges that the key is when faced with adversity, one takes what is dealt them and makes the best of it, by using it as a vehicle to bettering themselves. The take-away is to stay motivated and positive. A large part of that is having faith and honoring a higher authority by living up to a purposeful life and retain a resilient attitude in the face of any circumstance.

For those who are not acquainted with DeVaughn, know that he is a loving son who is a credit to his mother Cydra Myles, a loyal, honorable friend, a youth mentor, and a motivational role model to anyone wanting to succeed in life, by not making excuses but empowering themselves to go the distance in achieving their goals. Finally, he is a man of abiding faith. He has been active all his life in Christian organizations, from growing up attending Pleasant Grove Tabernacle in Brooklyn, New York to now attending Agape Fellowship in Rahway, New Jersey.

As a dynamic, multi-talented jack-of-all-trades, he is often referred to as the “go-to” man to get things done. DeVaughn’s ambition and unique ability to promote social events is one of his many talents, bringing people together from all corners and quarters of the country. That talent, in concert with his ability to motivate and empower, is something he would like to share with others to make their lives more meaningful and successful.

In his words, “Along the way of life, I’ve met challenges head on, leapt over hurdles, and journeyed across peaks and valleys. I’ve been blessed to earn over a quarter of a million dollars several times over the years. Thankfully, I’ve learned quite a few things that could save you a lot of time and anxiety on your journey to a more eventful live. I would love to share my passion, purpose and keys to success with you.”
